  2. Taiwan Timeline after World War 2 • 1945 World War Ⅱ ended and Japan surrendered. Taiwan returned to China. • 陳儀 started for its new assignment as Chief Executive of Taiwan Department. Taiwan’s population consisted of 6,700,000 Taiwanese, 285,000 Japanes civilians, 158,000 Japanese military personnel, 5,000 Okinawans and 2,000 Koreans. • 1948 Chiang Kaishek (蒋介石) was inaugurated as the 1st term president. • A thriving industry was a tea business in those days.
