The history about Kaohsiung(Taiwan). Old name-- 打狗 ( T akau). Meaning: Before 15C. ， Aboriginal we call Makatau live in Kaohsiung city . ” Takau ” means bamboo forest in their language. People use bamboo to protect their tribe . When Han group came,they called here for T akau. 16~17C.

  2. Old name--打狗(Takau) • Meaning: Before 15C.，Aboriginal we call Makatau live in Kaohsiung city . ”Takau”means bamboo forest in their language. People use bamboo to protect their tribe . When Han group came,they called here for Takau

  3. 16~17C. • Before the 16c. , fishermen came form Fujian took a break in here after fishing. Pirate came from China and Japan would attack them.Some of Fujian fishermen stayed in Kaohsiung ,they lived in 苓仔寮(Lingya district) • 1624A.D, Taiwan became Dutch’s colony. They set up organization to tax.

  4. 1661A.D., Cheng Ch'eng-kung ‘s army beated the Dutch.In order to increase food so they cultivated actively. • Cheng command army to cultivate. And teaching aborignal to produce sugar from sugarcane.

  5. 前鎮、右衝(右昌)、援剿(燕巢)

  6. A fishman met the typhoon when fishing in 1673A.D.He drifted to 旗後,then he came home to encourage his neighbors came here. And then，they builded a tample to bless them.

  7. Ching dynasty(1683A.D~1895A.D) • IN 17c., Ching dynasty ruled Taiwan . • First region is called 鳳山縣 (Fongshan City ) set upin Zuoying(左營) at now. • But more and more people came here, so government build a new wall in Fongshan(鳳山) .

  11. Making salt • The weather is hot and dry every October to April in Kaohsiung. • So Hakka from China to make salt in Kaohsiung.We called “瀨南鹽場”where is yanchen district now.

  12. A big changeLater of Ching dynasty • In 19C. Taiwan became very important, because many country want to trade with China and Japan,otherwise Taiwan’s location is on the midlle. So many country hope to trade with Taiwan.

  14. After war in 1860A.D,Taiwan was forced to open the port including Takau. • As a result, many foreigners came to Takau. So we can find many changes.

  15. Fisrt--ecnomic • Foreigners, especially British,they want to buy Taiwan products. For example, tea、sugar and camphor(the material of early plastic). Sugar is produced in Kaohsiung.
