  2. Fashion has always been an irreplacable part of our lifes. Even the people in long long past were trying to look as good as they could. Fashoin, it is not just the way of clothing, it represents our lifestyle and in many times our status.

  3. What is FASHION? Fashion is the style of clothing or behaviour that is common and popular for people at a certain time. New styles, materials, shapes and patterns appear, last for a certain time, disappear and later come back a little bit changed. Many young people, mostly women, are fashion-conscious and try to follow the latest trends in fashion, watching fashion shows and reading fashion magazines. The most popular fashion magazines are Vogue, Elle, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan. Fashion often reverts to older styles. What is out of fashion, funny or ridiculous now, may look romantic a few decades later. But the fashion never repeats itself quite in the same way.

  4. Materials, patterns and colours of clothes • Styles, cuts, designs and particularly length of clothes change very quickly because dressmaking has become big business nowadays. • There is a variety of materials the dress can be made of traditional natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen, silk, leather, rubber, fur, suede and man- made fabrics like nylon, acrylic, polyester, poly cotton. • There can be a whole range of distinctive features. We could note various types of neckline (high or low, oval, V-neck, boat neck, tie or poloneck, with collar or collarless) and various cuts of sleeves (inset, raglan). The dress may have a classic line, A-line, the waistline may be natural, high or low.

  5. Materials, patterns and colours of clothes • The design of clothes can be plain or patterned- flowered, geometric, striped, checked, dotted, and spotted) • Colours play an important role in fashion too. White is typical for babies to wear when they are christened and brides dress in white for church weddings because white represents purity and virginity. Some people choose colours according to their current mood. When they are happy, the colours are bright and light, but when they are sad or bad-tempered, the colours are dark.

  6. Clothesaccording to season • The way we dress also depends on the season. In summer we wear light summer dresses, loose blouses with a low neckline and with shortsleeves or without sleeves, skirts gathered at the waist or bell- shaped, cropped trousers, shorts or Bermuda shorts and various T-shirts, and on our feet we pull on sandals, mules, slippers, or plimsolls. • When we go swimming we put on a swim suit-bikini sometimes beach gown and straw hat.

  7. Clothes according to season • In winter we need to wear something warm – suits, trousers, jeans, woollies, cardigans, polo neck sweaters, jumpers, anoraks and parkas, winter coats and jackets, sometimes even a fur coat, gloves and mittens, caps, hoods, hats, scarf and mufflers.

  8. Ordinary clothes and clothes for special occasions • On special occasions we like to be dressed properly too. When we go to a concert or to the theatre we prefer to be dressed up. Women wear an eveningdress, mostly from well-known designers, and men weartie or bowtie, sometimes a dinner jacket and court shoes. • Official ceremonies require that people wear gowns orrobes, long loose usually black outer garments worn by judges, lawyers and members of universities.

  9. Ordinary clothes and clothes for special occasions • For sports we put on sports wear, such a jeans, shorts, T-shirts, blazers, parkas, track suits and to the mountains a waterproofjacket or anorak and sports shoes (trainers, plimsolls, heavy boots or ski shoes). • At home we like to feel comfortable, and so we prefer leisure wear – slack, jeans and T-shirts and on our feet slippers or mules.

  10. Uniforms • They are special kind of clothes. They are worn particularly by professionals such as the police, the armed forces, health workers, sometimes workersof a certain firm. It is still a tradition in some schools mostly private ones to wear school uniforms. It usually consists of a white shirt and grey or dark trousers and a dark sweater or blazer with a school badge on the breast pocket and perhaps a cap. The argument for uniforms is that they prevent competition among the girls and hide differences in family incomes.

  11. Costumes • Costumes reflect the style of a past time. They are not seen very often. Each country or part of country has own typical costumes. • For example Scotsmen are well-known for their national costume which consists of kilt, knee-length woollen socks, a cap and a sporran.

  12. Accessories • Fashion concerns not only clothes, but also hair style, make-up and accessories such as shoes, handbags, gloves, belts, hats, scarfs or jewellery andglasses. Mainly accessories can change and beautify garment and then our appearance looks smart, elegant and neat.

  13. FASHION Fashion will always be an irreplacable part of our lifes. It only depends on us if we will accept it the way it comes, or choose our own way of clothing. The End
