Objectives • Providescientific information, as well as Lithuanian scientific terminology onhumanitiesand social sciences research, the object of which is the past and present of Lithuanian society, culture, history, nationand language as a part of European scientific production. • Implement qualitative criteria for research works, seek high quality for research works • Ensurethe possibility for the researchersof the humanities and social sciences represent their works to the world community and scientists • Ensurethe dissemination of information about scientific achievements at the international level • Achievethe database recognition as tool of reseachers competency
Tasks • Createand develop research reviewed database on Lithuanian studies with recognized evaluation methodology on humanitiesand social sciences and use it selecting scientific production for the database • Ensure the presentation of main data of database in two languages: Lithuanian and English • Ensurethe dissemination research on Lithuanian studies as a part of world knowledge, using modern technologies of accumulation, access, processing and storage of information • Developthe competence of researchers of humanitiesand social sciences
National importance thematical database on Lithuanian studies • A priority for research on Lithuanianstudies was considered: • in Law on Science and Studies in 1991 • in Government 2002-2010 resolutions • inThe National Lithuanian studies development programme for 2009-2015.
International database on Lithuanian studies • Researchers on Lithuanian and Baltic studies work worldwide • Historical, cultural political thematics of researchers from neighbouring countries are often closely related with Lithuanian studies thematics • Lithuanian studies is a part of European scientific production, a part of global knowledge
Reviewed database on Lithuanian studies • The European Union language policy promote availability of structured, expert reviewed research results corresponding to the quality requirements • Scientific community is the most important assessor of the quality of scientific work
Features of the database „Lituanistika“ • Database reflects research works corresponding Lithuanian studies object and quality criteria and published in 2000 and subsequent years, and the thesis since 1991 • Thematics can not be distinguished in other databases and resources • Description object is research work, not publication • Detailed records about works for better search possibilities • Links and references with other publications • Expert comments and information about reviewed work evaluation in points • Constant structure of data
Three stages of database development • The Lituanistika database is created according to the projects supported by European structural funds. There has been three projects prepared since 2006. • In the first project (2006–2008)attention was focused on the scientific reasoning of database principles, objectives, targets, the selection and implementation of information system, as well as the initial contents of the database • The second stage(2009–2010) was devoted to consolidate researchers’ competences • The third stage (2011–2014) concentrates on database development, testing of new review methods, implementing modern ICT, seeking integration with other information systems
Current period tasks (2011–2014) • Accumulateresearchinformation onLithuanian studies, assuring highquality of works accessing to the database • Assurecomprehensive, integrateddataabout Lithuanian studies andaccumulation of open full-text documents and other criteria, determining the quality of the database • Assurethe integration of the database into international e-space of research information and the dissemination of the Lithuanian studies as a part of world knowledge • Clearup the general information anddatabase developmentneeds of HSS users • Developthe e-information management competences of HSSresearchers and students • Createa citation index, allowing to apply bibliometricalmethods • Assurelegality of the database

Conclusions • The database „Lituanistika“ has modern infrastructure devoted for strategic state tasks on Lithuanian studies • Creation of database is of great importance for qualification and competence development of scientists and researchers • More than 230 experts from study and research institutes participate in creation of database • More than 35 high quality librarians from 13 universities and academic libraries, 117 publishers also take part in the activities and creation of database
Perspectives • Lithuanian Government resolution about development of research fields on Lithuanian studies for 2012–2020 (2011) • New plan of implementation means of research fields on Lithuanian studies development by Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science (2013)
