*Introduction* • This presentation is about Professional Bull Riders (PBR). This is an applied research project for Governance in Sport. The main function of PBR is for professional bull riders to work their way up the “ladder” and make as much money as possible. PBR is the fastest growing sport in the world and more cowboys are riding these days after starting at age 3, mutton bustin. • “This is Bull Riding, and the first rule is just to stay alive.” (PBR 2014) • PBR
*Statement of Purpose* • The Statement of Purpose is to provide realistic information about the Professional Bull Riders Inc. governing body. *REVIEW OF LITERATURE* “Fastest growing sport in the world” • PBR.com • Matttripplet.com • Rodeohouston.com
*Mission Statement* • “Record and preserve the pedigrees of the world's premier bucking bull lineage while maintaining and enhancing the integrity and value of the American Bucking Bull breed."(PBR 2014)
*Date Founded* • PBR was created in 1992 when a group of 20 visionary bull riders broke away from the traditional rodeo scene seeking mainstream attention for the sport of professional bull riding. *Location of Headquarters* - Pueblo, Colorado
*Responsibilities* • To maintain a safe and Christian organization for bull riders. • Ensure each bull rider gets an equal opportunity to ride, as long as qualifications are in place. • Make sure each rodeo has enough professional bulls for riders to ride • Get the funding from sponsors and others to pay the winners
*How does PBR support the Members?* • Membership gives you a riding permit which allows you to enter into the touring division after you receive $2,500 a year. • There is a rider relief fund you can receive if you get injured while riding. The amount depends on the severity of the injuries. • If you are in need of safety or rodeo equipment, it is available
*Membership Qualifications* • 18 years of age to purchase a PBR membership. • After you purchase the PBR membership you will receive a riding permit. This riding permit will allow you the ability to enter the Touring Pro Division. Once you win $2,500 in prize money you will be upgraded from permit status to cardholder status, however, you have to continue to win at least $2,500 each year to maintain your cardholder status. (PBR 2014) • Once you receive your cardholder status you can work your way toward the Touring Pro Division standings, which can earn you a position on the Built Ford Tough Series.
*Organizational structures* • Owned today by 44 cowboys, management and Spire Capital, the PBR continues to establish milestones in organizational revenue, bull rider earnings, record breaking performances, and media attention.(PBR 2014) • It still relishes the title of being the fastest growing sport in the country. • More than 1,200 bull riders from the U.S., Australia, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico hold PBR memberships. They compete in more than 300 bull riding events per year on either the elite tour, which is the Built Ford Tough Series, the Touring Pro Division, or the PBR International circuits (PBR Australia, PBR Brazil, PBR Canada and PBR Mexico). The ultimate goal for PBR athletes each year is to qualify for the prestigious PBR World Finals in Las Vegas where the coveted title of PBR World Champion is decided
