DCP • Data Collection: • Record all your raw data in tables. • Number and caption tables • Titles, units and the uncertainty should be given in the headings of the tables. • It should be abundantly clear what the values in your data tables mean! 2. Underneath the table-briefly describe the results. -describe main trends -account for anomalous results -don’t discuss significance of results 3. Record qualitative data!

  3. DCP • Data Processing • Process data correctly -show sample calculation for each UNIQUE calculation -present results in tables (as with raw data) and graphs -Graphs: Title, Axis labels with units and uncertainty -5 to 6 data points for a trend line (3 trials each) • For HL: Error analysis should be carried out if possible (calculate the percentage uncertainty, etc).

  4. CE • Conclusion: • Discuss the results you obtained in relation with your hypothesis. • Write a conclusion based on an interpretation of the gathered results. 3. Compare your results with literature values if possible. -percent yield -percent error (percent deviation)

  5. CE • Evaluation: • Evaluate the method used. -Discuss main weakness of the method used -Discuss the weakness in the method of manipulation of data. 2. Write about the source of error, but don’t include personal mistakes. 3. Discuss specific impacts of each error 4. Suggest real improvements (that can be carried out in the school lab) to the investigation. 5. Discuss further investigations that are of interest and can be carried out and new questions that could be posed. • Retrieved from http://goto.glocalnet.net/ibweb/homepagelink.htm, June 2012.
