Status: What Have Not Been Installed • LTU • Single Beam Dump and TDUND shielding • 150KG quadrupole electrical covers • Vacuum pump down section 82 (TDUND area) • Undulator Hall • Undulator beamline vacuum pump down • 5 ANL Beam Loss Monitors • Dump • Complete interconnection of vacuum chambers • Secure dump pit from personnel

Installation Challenges and Issues • LTU • BTM were just received from supplier for installation • Installing heavy pieces of marble shielding without overhead crane • Undulator • During BFW checkout we found 5 units with broken carbon wire, these wire were replaced. • Some Evac flanges leaked during installation, knife edges were inspected reworked at SLAC • Dump • Installation BYD magnet and chamber without overhead crane • Interference between BYD magnet and chamber, solved by using smaller socket head screw • Verification of BXPM magnet, Jim Turner developed a plan for this verification • Minor interference fit of supports that required modifications

Installation Assurance & Safety • Tailgate meetings before every shift to discuss daily activities and any safety related issues • Everyone are safety trained before they are allowed to work in the construction area • Everyone are required to sign in and out of construction area • Job walk with contractors before start of each job • Installation weekly meetings • Instituted Quality Control check list sign off for both components and post installation • Safe Performance Observation walk (minimum once a week for managers)

Safety Approval Documents • Statement of Work (SOW) – These documents are written by installation manager for Davis Bacon contractor and are submitted to Building Inspection Office, BIO, for approval. BIO requires 11 signatures for approval • Davis Bacon contractors are required to submit and approval of following documents: • Industrial Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (3 approval signatures) • Site Specific Safety Plan (4 approval signatures) • Job Safety Analysis (3 approval signatures) • Rigging Plans (3 approval signatures) • Work Authorization Form (WAF) – this is approval for SLAC employee to work in installation site (8 approval signatures)

  15. Summary • Progress towards completion of 2008 installation is going well. Only few areas needed to complete in next two weeks • Based on last three installations, 2008 installation was the longest and best organized • Successful collaboration with Argonne National Lab colleagues on Undulator Hall installations • Plans are in development to repair RFBM windows in an event they develop leaks • Post E-beam installation: • Kathleen Ratcliffe will be supporting future installation managers • Mike Zurawel will be area manager for Undulator Hall • Phil Cutino and Don Schafer will be LTU-Dump area engineers
