What is a PET Scan? • PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography. • A PET scanuses radiation, or nuclear medicine imaging, to produce 3-dimensional, color images of the functional processes within the human body.
PET scans are commonly used to investigate: • Epilepsy – To identify whether or not part of the brain is being affected by epilepsy. • Alzheimer's disease - To measure uptake of sugar in the brain • Cancer - To decide on the most appropriate cancer treatment • Heart disease – To identify whether or not specific parts of the heart have been damaged or scarred • Medical research
Medi-RayTM is currently working with industry experts to develop a unique syringe shielding and transport apparatus specifically designed to meet the heavier shielding demands of PET scanning.
This new apparatus will provide clinicians with a high level of protection from the arrival of the radioactive material in its shipping container all the way to its administration in the scanning facility.
