Its primary function is to decrease the production of stomach acid, providing relief to patients and promoting the healing of damaged tissues. However, Nexium has been associated with serious adverse effects, including kidney damage, bone fractures, and cardiovascular problems. While less attention has been given to other side effects of Nexium, kidney damage has become the most prevalent reason for legal action against the drug. In order to support their claims, individuals pursuing litigation against Nexium manufacturers require their medical records as crucial evidence. In 2011, the first legal case involving Nexium was filed, alleging that a woman's bone fractures were caused by the medication. In response to over 1,000 people making similar claims regarding Nexium‐ related bone damage, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation established a multidistrict litigation (MDL) in the Central District of California in December 2012. However, in October 2014, U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer ruled in favor of the defendants, AstraZeneca and McKesson Corporations, and dismissed the plaintiffs' claims. The MDL‐2404 IN RE: Nexium Products Liability Litigation officially concluded on January 4, 2017, despite the plaintiffs filing an appeal. Since 2016, an increasing number of Nexium lawsuits have been filed against AstraZeneca and other manufacturers of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Prilosec and Nexium, for kidney damage. Recognizing the potential impact on numerous individuals across the country who have experienced kidney problems as a result of Nexium's side effects, an MDL was established in the District Court of New Jersey specifically for Nexium lawsuits. This MDL consolidates all personal injury claims related to kidney disease or renal failure against AstraZeneca and Pfizer, among other PPI manufacturers, into the New Jersey district court. It handles pretrial processes such as summary judgment petitions and discovery. Individuals who have taken Nexium, whether through a prescription or over‐the‐counter, and subsequently suffered kidney injury may be eligible to pursue a Nexium lawsuit. Those who have taken the medication for a year or longer prior to developing renal problems may have better chances of receiving compensation. Claimants are required to provide evidence of hospitalization, medical records indicating chronic renal disease, and documentation of Nexium usage in support of their case. nexiumlawsuit2022
