  2. ConditionalSentences • As orações condicionais referem-se a condições reais ou irreais.

  3. ConditionalSentences 2. As orações com ifindicam as condições reais ou irreais e as orações principais expressam os resultados delas. Há três tipos básicos de orações condicionais:

  4. ConditionalSentences • FirstConditional: Descreve uma condição real ou provavelmente verdadeira. Nesse caso, usamos o SimplePresentna oração com ife o SimplePresentou Future com will(will+ infinitivesem to) na oração que expressa seu resultado. • If it rainsin São Paulo, trafficbecomesimpossible. • Iftheweathergetscolder, theywillbuyheavycoats. • Ifsheruns, shewill catch the bus.

  5. ConditionalSentences • SecondConditional: Descreve uma condição irreal ou improvável no presente ou futuro. Nesse caso, usamos o SimplePastna oração com ife o would+ infinitivesem to na oração que expressa seu resultado. • Iftheweathergotcolder, theywouldbuyheavycoats. • Ifhemademore money, hewouldbuya house.

  6. ConditionalSentences • ThirdConditional: Descreve uma condição irreal ou impossível no passado. Nesse caso, usamos oPastPerfectna oração com ife wouldhave+ PastParticiplena oração que expressa seu resultado. • Iftheweatherhadgottencolder, theywouldhaveboughtheavycoats. • Ifhehadrun, hewouldhavecaughtthe bus.

ConditionalSentences • A palavra unlesssignifica “a menos que” ou “a não ser que” e substitui as palavras “if...not” • Themilkwillspoilunlessyoukeep it cold. = Themilkwillspoilifyou do notkeep it cold. • Shewillhaveanaccidentunlessshe drives carefully. = Shewillhave na accidentifshedoesn’tdrive carefully.

  8. ConditionalSentences 4. Usamos apalavra werepara todas as palavras após ifse o verbo for be. • Ifyouwereyounger, I wouldacceptyouroffer. • Theywould help himiftheywerekinder

  9. ConditionalSentences 5. Were+ infinitivecom to pode substituir o SimplePast na oração com if. • IfI dyedmyhairgreen, I wouldlookveryweird. = IfI were to dyemyhairgreen, I wouldlookveryweird.

  10. ConditionalSentences 6. Podemos expressar condições semif. Nesses casos usamos should, wereou had(+pastparticiple) no início da oração.

  11. ConditionalSentences • FirstConditional: Usamos should+ sujeito + infinitivesem to. • ShouldI seeFred. I’llgivehimyourmessage. = If I see Fred, I’llgivehimyourmessage.

  12. ConditionalSentences • SecondConditional: Usamos were+ sujeito. • Wereherich, he’dtravela lot. = Ifhewererich, he’dtravela lot.

  13. ConditionalSentences • ThirdConditional: Usamos had+ sujeito + pastparticiple. • Hadweboughtour tickets sooner, we’dhavegottenbetterseats. = Ifwehadboughtour tickets sonner, we’dhavegottenbetterseats.
