  3. Sixth Form Team • Mr Walsh – Head of Sixth Form • Mrs Shivalkar – Assistant Head of Sixth Form • Miss Goody – Assistant Head of Sixth Form • Mrs Blaskett – Attendance Officer and Cover Supervisor for Sixth Form

  4. Attendance / Lates • Target 95% • No lates • Payback 3x lates = 1 hour on Friday

  5. So…what did we set your child to do over the summer? • Series of activities in June / July • University course searches • Apprenticeship website • Personal statement drafts • GAP Year • Meet with Mr Walsh for 30 minutes

  6. Signs your child is going to underperform • “I’ve got nothing to do” • “I don’t have to be in until Period 2” • “I’m just watching TV for 5 minutes” • “I’ve just turned my Xbox on”

  7. So…what do they have to do? • REVISION / COURSEWORK! • Personal statement preparation • University course search • Apprenticeship registration /CV prep

  8. How much study time? • Outside of normal lessons students should be doing a minimum of 5 hours per subject per week • This will increase leading up to coursework deadline and exams • A student using all their frees for study will still need to do an additional 7 hours of study per week outside of school

  9. Time management and organisation • Have deadlines & key dates noted in an organiser/diary • Use a weekly study timetable • Effective use of Study Periods • Get the balance right between school, social & work commitments

  10. Use of study periods • Supervised time for quiet study • Computers and wi-fi in the room • Number varies depending on timetable • Other students can work if space is available

  11. How can you help? • Show an interest your son / daughter’s work • Ask them to explain what & how they are doing • Provide the right environment for studying at home • Revision guides – yes please • Discuss future career / university goals • Communicate with the school

  12. How will we help? • Academic mentoring • Pastoral Support via Assembly and tutorial • Subject Support • Target Grades • Parents’ Evening & Reports

  13. Our expectations of students • Attend • Be Punctual • Uniform • Bring Equipment & Books • Be up to date with work • Use diary/organiser • Ask if unsure about anything • Read / Research around the subject • Contribute to the wider school community

  14. Uniform • Boys – Smart trousers, shirt, tie, appropriate shoes • Girls – Smart trousers, skirt or dresses • Any students not appropriately dressed will be sent home to change and placed on “uniform report”

  15. Supporting the school community • Supporting Y7s with reading • Supporting teachers in lessons • Running lunch time or after school clubs • Thursday 5th October – School Open Evening – Y13 to act as guides for parents

  16. Key dates • End of November – Mock exams for vocational subjects • 29th November – Year 13 Parents’ Evening • December – Year 13 A Level mocks • March – Year 13 Mock exams • May-June - Public exams • 26th June - Dinner Dance • 16th August - Results Day
