  2. 1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

  3. 9 "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. 11 "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. 14 "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 "These things I command you, that you love one another.

Personal ‘connectedness’ EXPRESSED in various Biblical ways • Rev.3:20 – Behold, I stand at the door at knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens … I will come in • John 14:23- … We will come to him and make Our home with / in him. • John 15:5– If a man remains in Me, and I in him, he will bear much fruit; … • 2Cor.5:17 – If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, old things have passed away, all things become new.

  6. OTHER EXPRESSIONS • Having a ‘PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP’ with Jesus • Am a ‘CHRISTIAN’ – ‘I’ve given my heart/live to Him.’ • I’m SERVINGHim • I ‘KNOW’ Him

  7. PERSONAL BLESSINGSof being ‘connected’ to Jesus • FELLOWSHIP; Intimacy; companionship directly with God. v.4 “Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.” • You NEVER need to be estranged from God! • You never need to be alone.

  8. 2. Good and godly things issue out of your life = FRUIT! • ‘Fruit’ – the natural product of a healthy life (style). • The difference between FRUIT and CONSEQUENCES • 2 scenarios: the Serenity of a FRUIT TREE; and the Minefield of CONSEQUENCES. Note Psalm 1:1-3

Psalm 1:1-3 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;(bad connections) 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

An EFFECTIVE PRAYER LIFE • v7 – IF you REMAIN IN ME and My Word REMAINS IN you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 2 things, for prayer to be effective: • A RIGHT Relationship/Connection with God; • James 5:16b – The prayer of a RIGHTEOUS man is powerful and effective. • ‘BOUNDARIES’ set by the WORD of God. • See Psalm 119:9 –11 and Hebrews 10:3

  11. Psalms 119:9-11 9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. 10 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!(NKJV)

[Application] HOW TO… • It has GOT to be through and WITH JESUS! • There MUST BE a definite, decisive act of BELIEVINGin Him, and ‘RECEIVING’ Him. • Then, follows REPEATED DECISIONS to REMAIN IN Him – Conscious decisions to MAINTAIN connection. • PRACTICALLY: PRIORITISE TIME WITH HIM! • Take definite steps to be with Him; to talk to Him; to be influenced by Him; include Him in ALL your do. • Make His Word (the Bible) a feature of your life GET / STAY ‘CONNECTED’ TO HIM
