UMass Environmental Engineering Research Project“Development of a Chemical Treatment Model for Desalting Membrane Residuals” Principal Investigators: • Kenneth Mercer (PhD student), John Tobiason Sponsors • NWRI-Cargill Fellowship • Switzer Foundation Fellowship Duration: 9/05 – 8/08 Synopsis: Bench-scale chemical treatment by coagulation and/or softening of high ionic strength concentrates produced by desalting membranes. Goal is removal of trace contaminants and organic matter. Chemical quilibrium modeling of treatment processes. Status: Expected 08/08 completion • Presentations at AWWA WQTC 2006, 2007 • Presentation at ASCE/EWRI Conference, Tampa, May 2007 • Presentation at 12th Gothenburg Symposium on Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater, Ljublana, Slovenia, May 2007
