  12. NLII Ideas for Proposals • 1. The development of a repository of culturally sensitive/relevant learning objects for online and technology enhanced courses, perhaps in collaboration with the MERLOT project. A learning object would be part of a course that could be combined with other learning objects to form or re-design a course. Joyce Williams-Green, Joe Douglas, Al Kuslikis, and Charlene Douglas expressed an interest here.

  13. NLII Ideas for Proposals • 2. A summer institute(s) for faculty for faculty development in the area of learning/teaching and technology. Henry Ingle, UTEP, and Carolyn Anderson, WSSU, the later through Joyce Williams-Green, have expressed interest in this project. • 3. Faculty development to engage them in collaborative research with other universities so they may in-turn engage students; so research activities for the teaching of undergraduates. Richard Alo expressed an interest in this idea.

  14. NLII Ideas for Proposals • 4. Physical Learning Spaces, sometimes referred to as smart classrooms among other terms. Steve Pollard, CSULA, and Joyce Williams-Green expressed interest in this idea. • 5. Assessment of learning outcomes with online or technology-enhanced courses to ascertain the effectiveness of the technique. Steve Pollard is doing this and is interested in doing a proposal with others.

  15. NLII Ideas for Proposals • 6. Virtual Educational Communities perhaps utilizing the Access Grid for cross-cultural collaborations. Al Kuslikis and Richard Alo expressed an interest. • 7. Student Centered Institutions. Angelique Lewis expressed an interest here. • 8. Resource Mapping perhaps as a means for Knowledge Management or for letting others at other MSIs know who and what are resources at MSIs. Joyce Williams-Green and Al Kuslikis have an interest.

  16. NLII Ideas for Proposals • 9. A faculty development program for developing culturally sensitive learning objects through cross-cultural collaborations using virtual educational communities and a summer institute. Joyce Williams-Green expressed interest for herself and for Carol Anderson, WSSU, who would like to be the PI on such a grant.

  17. NLII Ideas for Proposals • Other ideas that came out of the brainstorm: • 1. Designing online courses • 2. Learning styles research/support • 3. Potential research proposal on MSIs with Richard Katz, ECAR, Educause • 4. Course re-design through technology • 5. Virtual learning groups as part of classes • 6. Collaborative solutions • 7. Strategic planning • 8. Making swirling, the taking of classes from other institutions than the primary institution, into an asset through formal agreements
