Juno Juno is a film produced in 2007 where two teens are faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Juno, the pregnant teen, must make a decision that all teens are faced with.
Theme: There are 3 main themes: • Teens dealing with unplanned pregnancy • Battling between pro-life or pro-choice • Making the right decision for the child
Main Concept of the film: • The main character, Juno, is faced with 2 very difficult decisions: • Whether or not to choose to perform an abortion, a weighty decision for many young mothers who aren’t ready to raise a child, or adoption, a choice often made in the child’s best interest. • Going through the adoption process even when her selected “perfect” family has been complicated.
Brokeback Mountain Brokeback Mountain is a movie produced in 2005 about two cowboys that try to hide their secret relationship together over the years while trying to live their other “normal” lives.
Theme: • The primary theme of 2005’s, Brokeback Mountain, is the struggle for two men to maintain a romantic relationship in a small, rural, conservative town during the 1960’s. When doing so could mean death.
Main Concept of the Film: • Ennis and Jack must make the bold decision together to stay with each other even though they live in a time during the 1960’s where it’s conservative views would prevent two men from being together. As well as keeping their other “normal” lives, being married to women and having children. The struggle to maintain their relationship while keeping it a secret, turns out to be Jack and Ennis’ greatest trial.
4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days is a movie produced in 2007 that has to deal with a young woman that chooses to help her friend arrange an abortion, which is illegal in 1980’s communist Romania.
Theme: The movie, 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days has 3 main themes: • Young women dealing with unplanned pregnancy • Making the dangerous decision to go ahead with an illegal abortion • Two young women having sex with a man as a form of payment, portraying a modernized example of prostitution
Main Concept of the Film: The main concept of this film was: • Gabita makes the difficult decision to opt for an illegal abortion during a dangerous time in 1980’s communist Romania. With this decision, she gets her friend Otilia to help her with arrangements. Things don’t go as planned and they choose to have sex with the man performing the abortion as a form of payment.
Conclusion: • In conclusion, Juno, Brokeback Mountain, and 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days, are all alike in sexuality in how they deal with taboo subjects such as teen pregnancy, gay relationships, and dangerous abortions.
