The Student (I) will be able to: • Identify the reasons why Americans called for war with Britain. • Describe the problems facing the United States as a result of the war in Europe and the western frontier. • Examine the reasoning of the War Hawks and important events in 1814. • Describe the battle of New Orleans • Analyze the effects of the War of 1812.

  3. Tensions between Britain and the US continues. Many British people thought the U.S. and Britain might reunite under the British Empire. Americans did not return property taken from Loyalists. British did not give up their forts west of the Appalachians. British continued to trade with Native Americans.

  4. War between Britain and France affects the U.S. France and Britain are foes from 1793-1814 1805 Britain establishes a blockade restricting trade btwn America and France Americans want war with Britain

  5. Trade as a weapon Embargo Act of 1807 Hurt Americans more than British or French Farmers from the south and west had fewer people to purchase goods. Ship owners lost money. Many ship owners ignored the Embargo Congress repealed the Embargo Act. American anger grows toward British

  6. Tecumseh and Native American unity/War Hawks Tecumseh wanted to unite the Native Americans against the settlers. Tecumseh felt that agreements btwn settlers and Nat Am were useless as land was for everyone’s use and could not be bought or sold. Battle of Tippecanoe Westerners who wanted war with Britain to stop British help to Native Americans Andrew Jackson
