Progress at EC level • BISE concept discussed at first meeting Go4 for Biodiversity, 1/07/09 → EC first draft vision document for BISE, 2/09 • BAP requirements detailed in EC Biodiversity Knowledge Base Country Profile, 21/09/09 • BDC components (7 work packages) further developed within EU Expert Group on Reporting under Nature Directives, Brussels (5/03, 18/06, 24/09)
1. BISE Concept 1/07/09 • Implement 2005 Go4 Technical Arrangement and Environmental Data Centres • Implement 2007 EC Directive establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) • Implement 2008 EC Communication concerning a Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) Need for developing a common vision, close cooperation on the practical work & division of tasks, clear work-plans
2. BAP requirements • Country profile template finalised (01/10/09 – 31/12/09) • EC (contract) to prefill the profile (01/10/09 – 31/12/09) • MS to use Reportnet to entry data (08/01/10 – 19/02/10) • EC (contract) to synthesise data across 27 MS • 2010 BAP final assessment to be published on CHM?
Expert Group on Reporting under the Nature Directives 3. Work-plan - Expert Group on Reporting
Our views on BDC • Common portal to easily access/view ‘processed’ data • Common interface to multiple biodiversity data sets (EUNIS+) • Easy discovery of data and advertising data sets (unlike EUNIS) • Multiple formats for use by experts and non experts • Reference centre for updated biodiversity data (Art. 17, N2000, Red lists, birds, BAP, CDDA…) • Core data for assessments, indicator-based reports,… • Key issue: what is the added value for EC, EEA/ETC?
