South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Board (SCOWIB) • Spring 2005 • SCOWIB, Area Technology Centers, Area Workforce Center partners– OESC and WIA met and decided to participate in the state-sponsored Regional Career Readiness Certificate Pilot Project • WorkKeys ® and KeyTrain® available and encouraged in the area’s 3 Workforce Oklahoma Centers, 1 satellite center, and 5 area technology centers.
June 2005 • SCOWIB articulated support of WorkKeys® and Oklahoma Career Ready Certificates™ (CRC) in the South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Area’s Strategic Plan • SCOWIB required WIA service providers to obtain CRC and be able to administer WorkKeys® and KeyTrain® • OESC & Tech Centers also administer WorkKeys® and KeyTrain®
May 2006 • Chickasha Public Schools implemented WorkKeys® Assessment for seniors • June 2006 • WorkKeys® incorporated into the area’s Integrated Workforce Services Plans • February 2007 • South Central Oklahoma Workforce Investment Area Youth Symposium focused on WorkKeys®, Oklahoma Career Ready Certificates™, and KeyTrain ®
Summer 2007 • SCOWIB, ASCOG, and Lawton Public Schools collaboratively created a Career Explorations curriculum incorporating KeyTrain®, WorkKeys®, the Oklahoma Career Readiness Certificate™, and OKCIS • August 2007 • Career Explorations curriculum piloted in two local area high schools • WIA Youth Program Contractors implement KeyTrain® as a tutoring tool for youth preparing for the GED exam and youth requiring a basic skills upgrade
Fall 2007 • WorkKeys® assessment administered to 284 area high school students • Spring 2008 • The WorkKeys® assessment administered to 280 area high school students • Fall 2008 • The WorkKeys® assessment administered to 301 area high school students • KeyTrain® Career Skills was validated as an effective service tool for South Central WIA Youth Program*
Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments (ASCOG) • KeyTrain® • Identify and promote opportunities for high school students to use KeyTrain® through the Career Explorations class and through the ASCOG WIA Youth Program* • KeyTrain® Hard Skills – Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Locating Information • KeyTrain ® Career Skills - Business Etiquette, Communication Skills, The Job Search, Workplace Effectiveness, and Work Habits
WorkKeys® • Market WorkKeys® to local high school* • Present the benefits of WorkKeys® to high school students* • Order assessment materials for high schools* • Facilitate testing for high schools* • Send assessments to Oklahoma Department of Commerce for scoring and CRC • Promote WorkKeys® with local businesses* • Encourage local business job profiles* • Promote KeyTrain® as our source upgrading skills for CRC or general skills upgrade
Assistance to Area Youth • KeyTrain® • Assisted 200+ High School Students in developing highly sought soft skills • Assisted 15+ Out of School Youth with GED Exam Preparation • Assisted 50+ In School Youth upgrade basic skills at least one grade level
