LDOE Agency Goals 6. Graduate on Time • Enroll in postsecondary education or Workforce Ready ( Postsecondary Enrollment) • Enroll in postsecondary education or Workforce Ready ( Industry Based Certification (IBC) attainment) • Achieve these goals regardless of race or class.
College Readiness • Means a high school graduate has the reading, writing, and math knowledge and 21st century skills to qualify for and succeed in entry level, credit bearing, college degree ( 1,2, or 4 year) courses without the need for remedial classes.
Career Readiness Means a high school graduate can read, comprehend, interpret and analyze complex technical materials, can use mathematics to solve problems in the 21st century workplace, and can pass a state approved industry certification or licensure exam in their field.

Louisiana Virtual School (a BESE 8(g) funded Exemplary Program) The Louisiana Department of Education’s LVS program provides Louisiana middle and high school students with access to standards-based high school courses delivered by highly qualified Louisiana teachers through the Louisiana Virtual School LVS offers increased course access to meet: • Graduation requirements • College admission requirements • TOPS requirements • Credit Recovery • Catch-up • Career and technical education • Dual enrollment • Advanced Placement • High quality curriculum and teachers • Flexible learning(anywhere, anytime)
LVS enrollment and course offerings • 2010-2011 Data LVS Advanced Placement Academy Fall 2010: 132 students are taking advantage of the 13 online AP course offerings. LVS Dual Enrollment Fall 2010: 244 students are taking advantage of this opportunity in four Louisiana universities.
Dropout Prevention Action Plans The Louisiana Dropout Prevention Act of 2008 (Regular Session, 2010 ACT 557) §221.4. Dropout prevention and recovery program The state board shall develop specific methods of targeted intervention or identify appropriate existing methods for city, parish, and other local public school systems that have a four-year cohort graduation rate of less than eighty percentas determined by the state board.
Jobs For America’s Graduates (JAG-LA) Jobs for America’s Graduates-Louisiana (JAG-LA) is a dropout prevention and recovery program that delivers a unique set of services for at-risk students • 2010-2011 School Year • 75 JAG-LA Programs in 42 districts • 42 Multi-Year Programs • 9 Middle School Programs • 16 Alternative Programs (EMPLoY) • 8 Out-of –School Programs 2,700 active students will receive JAG Services this year 1,000 additional students will receive follow-up services
Connections Connections begins August 2011 11 districts are currently piloting Connections • What is it? • A one year process for overage students to receive targeted instruction aimed at attaining HS diploma, GED, IBC, or State Approved Skills Certificate • Who is eligible? • Currently enrolled Options students • Students 15 years of age and 2 or more years academically behind • How will it work? • Connections’ students will be: • taught by certified content area teachers • provided mentors (at a ratio no greater than 5:1) • offered Carnegie units • classified as 8thgraders
