13.8% of meals over Thanksgiving weekend are leftovers, compared to 5.6% throughout the rest of the year. (1) Individuals are more likely to consume coffee and alcohol alongside their snacks during Thanksgiving weekend. (2) Consumers are more likely to consume turkey and soup during Thanksgiving weekend than any other time of the year. (1) During Thanksgiving weekend, individuals consume about 3.2 dishes at lunch and 3.6 dishes at dinner compared to 2.5 and 2.9 throughout the entire year. (1) Consumers have a particularly greater tendency to consume chocolate, potato chips, dips & salsa, and crackers during Thanksgiving weekend. (2) The top side dishes during Thanksgiving weekend include vegetables, potatoes, fruit, stuffing, and bread. (1) Pies are by far the top dessert during Thanksgiving weekend comprising of nearly half of all dessert eatings, followed by fruit and cakes. Consumers have a greater tendency to consume chocolate, nuts, crackers, dips & salsa, and trail mix during Christmas Eve/Day. (2) The top lunch/dinner foods on Christmas Eve/Day include sandwiches, poultry, soup, and pizza; all of which have a greater tendency for consumption with the exception of sandwiches. (1) Pies, cakes, and fruit are the top desserts during Christmas Eve/Day accounting for nearly 60% of desserts consumed. (1) The top side dishes during Christmas Eve/Day include vegetables, potatoes, bread, fruit, and salads. (1) During Christmas Eve/Day, individuals consume about 2.7 dishes at lunch and 3.8 dishes at dinner compared to 2.5 and 2.9 throughout the entire year. (1)
