Suggested NAU’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan - Transportation • Implement north-south transit spine • Replace 75% of existing surface parking lots with perimeter parking garage system • Close campus to non-essential vehicles • Change “Parking Services” to “Commuter Services” • Increase parking permit fees 20% • Establish mandatory faculty & staff videoconferencing • Adopt a “yellow bike” program • Install bike lockers • Convert MCT busses to a 20% biodiesel/diesel fuel mixture • Workshop # 2

Key Parking Issues • Garages needed soon to stay ahead of demand • Swing space needed sooner, to allow garage construction • Shifts between north and south are inevitable as lots come and go • Must manage permit assignments to avoid ‘hunting’ and frustration • If garage program is not feasible, TDM must be more aggressive • Key relationship with permit prices: • as funding mechanism • as demand-management tool
