  2. BACKGROUND • The Sana river one of the three rivers in RS with the first category of water quality (Government of RS’s directive ) • A concession for small hydro-power plant issued in 2008 • The area of the Sana springs planned to be named a park of nature (Spatial Plan of RS 2008-2015)

  3. COALITION FOR SANA • 23 member NGOs

  4. ACTIVITIES – LEGAL ACTIONS • The Coalition won the process against the Ministry twice regarding the EIA. Third time the court said EIA and decision on environmental permit is OK, the Coalition apealed, case currently at the Superior Court • The coalition sued the Ministry for issuing both the environmental permit and partial building permit. Case pending at municipal court

ACTIVITIES • Traditional trip to the Sana springs • Exhibition of photos taken at Sana river “Colors of Sana“ • Documentary on Sana natural and cultural values • Media campaign (radio jingle and video spot) • Promotional (website, facebook, leaflets) • Rafting for MPs and journalists • The Sana štafeta

  6. RESULTS SO FAR • Authorities still aren’t willing to declare the upper Sana region a park of nature due to lack of finances • In new, draft Spatial Plan of RS 2015-2025 the upper Sana region is still planned to be named park of nature
