MASTERS Opportunities SSHRC • Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS • Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements CIHR • Frederick Banting and Charles Best CGS • Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements Eligibility: • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada • Application for first Masters (or equivalent) degree • Have not received a scholarship or fellowship from SSHRC, CIHR, or NSERC previously for Masters degree • Have completed not more than 12 months (ft) in a Masters program as of December 31, 2013 • Maintained first class average (last 2 years)
Incoming VS Outgoing Model Incoming = Students apply for a CGS scholarship through the university they wish to attend Outgoing = Students apply for a CGS scholarship through the university they are currently registered

Transcripts • Applicant is responsible to upload transcripts • Include all transcripts after high school • Copy legend side only once per institution (grading system) and add as last page for that institution • Attach as a single PDF to application on Research Portal • Most recent (top) to oldest (last)
Research Proposal • Key to success • 2 pages maximum (use all space available) • Compelling – convincing – coherent – answering the vital question: • “WHY SHOULD YOUR RESEARCH BE FUNDED?”
Referees • Identify and secure 2 referees that know you well • Deadline – November 18 • Must create their own registration to submit as a Reviewer • Double (triple) check that references have been uploaded successfully • You do not need a department appraisal
MichaelSmith ForeignStudySupplements • Successful CGS M holders may apply • 2 deadlines per year (spring & fall) • Value $6,000 for research overseas (3-6 consecutive months) while enrolled in graduate studies at home institution
