  2. The Barrier Reef The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. There is 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 3,000 kilometres, over an area of approximately 344,400 square metres. The Reef is located in the coral sea , off the coast of Queensland in north east Australia. : The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space. : It is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. : The Great Barrier Reef Is 500,000 years old which is quite young.
