HIV king of STIs • Evolution of the prevelence in cameroon. • 1985: 1 out of 200persons. i.e(0.5%) • 1987: 1 out of 100 persons. i.e(1%) • 2004: national prevelence ( 5.5%) • 6.8% for women and 4.1% for men. • Out of five infected persons three are women. • Age range mostly infected; youths between 15 and 39 years.
Means of transmition • Through sex • Uprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner. • Through blood. • Transfusion of infected blood,sharp objects soiled with infected blood. • From mother to child. • During pregnancy,during delivery and when breastfeeding. • Cultural practices.
How to prevent STIs • Abstinence. • Correct and systematic use of condom.
Reasons for spread. • Lack of information. • Fear of going in for the screening test. • Refusal to abstain. • Low rate of condom use.
Vulnerability of the woman • Direct factor: • The biological and physical constitution of our body. • Stucture of the vagina. • Dampness of teh vagina. • The usefulness of the vaginal mucus. • Indirect factors: • Socioeconomic and cultural factors. • High rate of illitracy. • Financial dependency of the woman.
What to retain • The earlier you do your test the better. • STIs are open doors to HIV.
