Latino Programming and Materials for School-Age Children: Flip for Books / Book Trailers
Napí Goes to the Mountain By Antonio Ramirez and Domi http://vimeo.com/30637778 password scla2011
How to Make a Book Trailer • Items • Flip or other hand-held video cameras • Write-able DVDs and envelopes • Art supplies, toys, props • Optional: flexible mini-tripod • Optional for older children: Windows Movie Maker or free video-editing software
Children select a book to book-talk. • They can hold the book and book-talk. • They can make pictures or use puppets. • They can dress up, make props, or act out a part.
Book Trailer Tips • The librarian (or another child) can use a Flip camera to film the book-talk. • Flip and other mini-cams can also be mounted to a mini-tripod. • Flip uses a USB swivel-arm. No cables! • The video can be burned to a disk for the child to keep.
More Tips • I recommend keeping it simple. • Do it in one take. • Repeat takes as needed. • Avoid editing, unless the child has the skills. • There are free editing programs. Windows Movie Maker is serviceable.
