Always a drop ahead Water Conservation Awareness Action -------------------------------------------------- Uri Schor - Spokesperson
Due to Climate change, We are facing global changes and a global threat. • The Real Global Water Problem: • Less water per capita due to deteriorating infrastructure, lack of awareness and caring, atc. • UN estimates that by 2025 up to 1.8 billion people could face water scarcity. • By 2050, 45% of the world’s population will be living in countries that are chronically suffering from water shortage. • The Solution: Holistic, centralized water management.
Coping with Water Shortage – The ISRAELI Experience In order to prevent the next crisis – we need to Managethe water shortage
Identifying the problem • Exploiting the potential • Flood perception • Reservoirs • Reducing demand • Leaks and water loss • Conservation, Education • Technology • Pricing • Creating “new water” • Reclaimed water • Desalination
Water in ISRAEL – Fast Facts • 60% of the land – desert. The rest - arid. • Rainfall has fallen to half (From 1948 average). • From 1948, Israel's population has grown 10-fold. • Due to Climate Change, Israel is expected to become even drier.
Average Annual Rainfall: • Chennai– 154.1 cm (60.7 in) • New Delhi – 78 cm (31.1 in) • Mumbai – 216.8 cm (85.4 in) • Bangalore – 90.5 cm (35.6 in) • Uttar Pradesh – 90-166.7 cm (35.9-66.5 in) • Rajasthan (extreme north western parts) – 14 cm (5.5 in) • Eilat – ISRAEL – 0.21 cm (0.08 in)
The Base for a change is The Acceptance of the Public AWARENESS THE PUBLIC MUST KNOW
Raising awareness • Motivation for action
Water Crisis – Campaigns Education, Efficiency…
Different methods of Research studies, Surveys And Advertising effectiveness
Dilemma 1: • What difference can I make?
Dilemma 2: • The Government’s job is to provide water. • Water is a right – I will use it how I want.
Saving campaigns have shown, without no doubt, that you can save 10% - 20% from the total amount consumed with an emphasis on non-harming the consumer welfare.
A research examined the potential of saving water. • The findings clearly stated (Among others): • - Water savings is the best available way to reduce The gap between supply and demand of water. • - Water saving is economical. • - Water saving is environmental. • - Water saving can be considered a permanent • component in the water sector.
The bottom line: The growth in water consumption has slowed, and a saving of over 17% has been recorded.
Domestic Water Consumption 1996-2014* Per capita / annum *2014 – estimated data
National Consumption: Agricultural Sector 2050 2010 350 (26%) 500 (48%) 900 (67%) 400 (38%) 144 (14%) 100 (7%) If effluent were not used in agriculture, desalinated water production would be required (a more costly alternative) to supply the agricultural sector’s needs.
A quick look at some advanced technologies: • Beta site projects principaks • P.P.P. – Public Private Partnership. • Installation of products in large scale implementation, • in real field conditions. • Budget – 60% Government, 20% entrepreneurs, • 20% water & sewage corporations. • Common control for common goal. • Win – Win – Win Situation
Some examples: • Water leaks detection (Satellite-mounted sensors) • Pipe repair from its inside • Leak detector inside premises • What’s going on underground (In sewage collection system) • Sewage level detection • Flow rate measurement • 24/7 Quality monitoring • Alternative water supply in emergency situation • (Earthquake, war, severe glitch…) • Cybersecurity • Fire hydrants’ protection • River quality monitoring • Etc’.
Conclusion: • New technologies enable us: • To improve efficiency & effectiveness • To upgrade the service standards • To protect the water quality • To protect the environment • To save water, energy & money.
Once there is the knowledge, the experience, and technology We can do it! We must do it! We will do it!
