WIND SYSTEMS THAT FOLLOW PATTERNS OVERTIME ARE CALLED PREVAILING WINDS • WINDS THAT BLOW FROM EAST TO WEST BETWEEN THE TROPICS AND THE EQUATOR ARE CALLED TRADE WINDS.

  3. EFFECTS ON CLIMATE • STORMS: WHEN MOIST AIR RISES SUDDENLY AND MEETS DRY, COLD AIR, STORMS DEVELOP • TORNADOES, HURRICANES, AND TYPHOONS CAN OCCUR • OCEAN CURRENTS: STEADILY FLOWING STREAMS OF WATER IN THE WORLD’S SEAS. CAN CARRY WARM WATER TO HIGHER LATITUDES AND IMPACT THE CLIMATE.

  4. EFFECTS ON CLIMATE • EL NINO= LITTLE BOY: VERY HEAVY RAINS FALL ON WESTERN SOUTH AMERICA CAUSING FLOODS, LITTLE RAIN FALLS ON AUSTRALIA, SOUTHERN ASIA, AND AFRICA. NORTH AMERICA MAY SEE SEVERE STORMS. • LA NINA=LITTLE GIRL: CAUSES UNUSUALLY COOL WATERS AND LOW RAINFALL IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC, WESTERN PACIFIC RAINS ARE HEAVY AND TYPHOONS CAN OCCUR
