What is Peace Games Peace Games is the Non governmental organization created by Uisp in 1990 to promote and support humanitarian aid and cooperation for development actions, that local committees and sport leagues realize in the South countries and East Europe. Peace Games mission is to valorise sport potentiality as instrument of growth and aggregation in development society. Projects propose sport as communication vehicle and cohabitation in lands afflicted by wars or as instrument to support educational projects in developing countries. In this sense it addresses to traditionally weakest sectors of population, as children, disables or elderly, but overall to youth as receptive subjects able to multiply and transmit positive messages. In collaboration with local partners Peace Games work on training of local operators, on animation, on restructuration and settlement of recreational and sport spaces and social aggregative centres. In emergency situations it also works on rehabilitation of structures and buildings and with distribution of relief goods. Peace Games organizes in Italy training courses for operators, with generic skills on social discomfort and in particular on the use of sport methodologies to promote Peace. Beneficiaries are educators and sport, social and cultural operators,

Running Italy Work in progress • Since 2000 Peace Games organizes training courses to give general skills on social discomfort, with the objective to teach to use game and sport to spread a culture of peace and solidarity. Beneficiaries are educators, sport, social and cultural operators, teachers working with children and young people that need concrete work instruments to organize and manage laboratories on these themes. Peace Games also realizes training courses on writing, evaluation and financial reports. • Peace Games is active on national territory with education for development projects to promote peace culture inside civil society and schools, with activities aiming to know problems of developing countries and migrants people. • Periodic organization of photographic expositions and meeting with schools and associations to tell about peace Games activities around the world, particularly in Chiapas. • Peace Games participates to the projects “Cooperation activities”, an online database where collecting all projects of Cocis ngos.
Running Europe Work in progress The trafficking of young sportsmen, overall football players towards the Europe, is the theme of two projects presented together with Uisp on European grants “Daphne” and “Fundamental rights and citizenship”. Young athletes are attired in Europe by self-styled managers promising to become champions, but just a few of them can enter in professional sport. Most of them, after one year in a more or less prestigious club, are left alone, often in an illegal condition, with debts to pay for the travel in Europe, risking to fall in the criminality net. The projects foresee a deep research on the phenomenon (still submerged) and a linked campaign of awarenessfor sport world, civil society and mass media.
Running Brazil Work in progress “Juventud – rights in net” – Rio Grande do Norte state This project foresees the creation of a structured net among associations and Ngos attending the project table of Tuscany region on Latin America (“Women, youth and minorities”), the Latin American associations usually partners of above mentioned ngos, and some local bodies, associations and cooperatives from Tuscany. “Juventud” involves Brazil, Guatemala and Peru, in particular Peace Games will work in Brazil thanks to the partnership with Coletivo Quan-An. The aim of the net is to define a strategy able to work as reference system for action supporting right safeguarding and decent life of childdren and teens in the three Latin American countries. The project wants to apply an innovative methodology, to give voice to each member of the net and individuate together, thanks to a participated path, both needs of local population and objectives having to feature the future working strategy for next years. “Casa Lares”- Paranà state Cascavel is a town placed in the South Ovest of Paranà state, area particularly involved in economic crisis of the country. There are 250 thousand people living in urban and rural area, with a very young average: 42% is lower 20 years old. Adults, overall rural ones, generally haven’t professional specialization, and don’t gain enough money to support of the family. This is the cause of a large school abandon in teenagers, and they risk to became parte of drug traffic, prostitution system and general delinquency. Gouvernative programs to support minors don’t consider the situation of the territory, so they are inapplicable. Since many times Peace Games supports Casas Lares, project cared by father Luis Alberto Solis, a Chilean priest living in Cascavel, that work on rescue of minors considered “not recoverable” from drug addiction, using connection – where it is possible – with families, district associations and local organizations. Focal points of the project are professionalization of youth and improvement of physical condition, to develop self knowledge and a positive behavior of cooperation with the others.
Running Mexico Work in progress • “The flowering of our roots” – Chiapas • Chiapas is a region of Mexico counting 5 millions people, most indigenous. The main town is Cascavel, and is where Peace Games works. • Main problems in the area are the lack in infrastuctures and in social health services, so the project aims to help structures caring basic education of children and to improve professional skills of girls and women, also thanks to autonomous municipality Francisco Gomez del Caracol della Garrucha. • In particular Peace Games projects are addressed to children and women of sevaral indigenous communities. • Main activities: • aid of children of whole indigenous communities in education, wardrobe, health and food emergencies; • building of school rooms and buying of didactic material; • building of a basket pitch to offer a space where sport becomes an aggregative and self development instrument; • production by local population of “Educative dolls on birth”, sold in Italy for the salary of workers; • training courses for women on use of medical plants; • support of women handcraft with selling of products in Italy and in Chiapas; • didactic consultancy.
Running Repubblica Araba Saharawi Democratica Work in progress “Game Sport” – refugees camp of Smara (Algerian land) This project will be a clear example of field collaboration among Peace Games and Uisp committees and Leagues. Born from an idea of Athletics and developed by Peace Games, started with a pilot mission attended by Uisp Pesaro, realized thanks to funding of Catanzaro municipality with the collaboration of local Uisp. Day by day many Uisp interested in the area (as Traditional Game League and Emilia Romagna committees) and made a Uisp net for Saharawi population. The Uisp – Peace Games net is now preparing an annual project, together with Italian association El-Ouali and Sahara Marathon. The idea of a sport action born from the needs expressed by local population concerning young generation. Saharawi, native of Western Sahara (nation half appearing on the ocean) live in forced exile since thirty years, mainly because of the long war against Morocco, in a desert zone made by stone and sand, Hammada, in big refugees camps in Algerian lands where are living 250.000 people. Education and instruction of youth is central in Saharawi community, but the forced isolation and the lack in productive activities, due to the state of territory, is creating a frustration in people born in the camps, and this is the cause of social discomfort, as apathy, l’ aggressiveness and learning difficulty. In this landscape sport can run as aggregative factor, of aggressiveness sublimation and stimulus for self rediscovering and own ambitions. The aim of the project is to train local sport operators bout sport used as instrument of prevention of social discomfort and, after, to create a steady aggregative center where to practice permanent and organized sport activities, followed by operators trained on sport as educative instrument.
Running Senegal Work in progress Peace Games and Uisp are working on a consortium project with other Italian and Senegalese Ngos active on the territory, with whom they started a path thanks to the zero edition of cycle tour Dakar-Bamako “The silent tour of solidarity” that Uisp organized at the beginning of 2009. The tour, that during next edition will go also in Mali, ran in the surrounding of Dakar, and permitted to know international cooperation activities in that area of Senegal.
Running Lebanon Work in progress “Youth program Beirut South” – Beirut Lebanon is a country where for a long time cohabited, with alternate results, religions and different cultures. In the territories mostly struck by the so many wars as the south outskirts in Beirut (Dahiye), the social tensions are stronger. The Dahiye includes eight municipalities among which some, the shite ones, particularly struck by the Israeli bombardments in the war of the 34 days of July-August 2006, and already proved, because the area, that had been one of the principal sceneries of the 1975-1991 civil war fights, has not had access to the government funds for the reconstruction. The project, financed by the line "Art Gold" of the Program of Development of the United Nations (UNDP), and develops together with the Tuscan net of solidarity for Lebanon, composed from numerous ngos and local bodies, have individualized as target the juvenile population of the communities of Furn esh-Shebbak, Chiah and al-Hadath, in which the social problem of division are subsequently exacerbated by an urban structure that doesn't favor the meeting among the different communities and where the few existing structures are to private, that is to payment, or religious. The project precedes to work together with organizations, universities and local institutions to strengthen the juvenile politics of the three municipalities, to develop a common and long-term strategy to face the juvenile problem and to increase the abilities of the social workers and the animators of the among municipality. The field of activity of Peace Games is the education, particularly the education of young people and children through the sporting activities, and the intervention will realize through a professional formation of sporting operators and teachers of physical education on the practice of the sport as instrument of education and aggregation, the following methodological accompaniment to the formed operators and the realization of sporting activity organized in constant and continuous way.
Running Palestine Work in progress “The right to play in peace” – Shu’fat refugees camp (East Jerusalem) Since the 2004 Peace Games operates in the refugees camp of Shu'fat, situated few minutes far from East Jerusalem, built in 1967 by the Israeli authority for the installation of Palestinian families expelled from the Old City. In the years the population is grown and it is in continuous increase, today it is calculated that the inhabitants are over 24.000 even if it misses an up-to-date census. On the other hand the position of the Camp, closed among the Israeli installations, prevents the extension and the overcrowding, constitutes one of the principal problems of life quality, because of the disarrangements of the territory (overlapped unauthorized constructions, insufficiency of the sewers and of the disbursement of energy and water...), that cause the progressive alteration of the already difficult social equilibriums of the area. The Camp is isolated by now from the metropolitan area in Jerusalem from the Wall of separation almost completed and from a military check-point, that make difficult the circulation of people and commodities, the access to the places of employment and the scholastic structures, that for many people are out of the confinements. The military occupation and the progressive closing of the Camp are bringing the population to unbearable conditions of life. The material impoverishment, the isolation and the continuous humiliations which the families are submitted, traditionally conduct to a progressive breakup of the social relationships and the tied up values to the family roles. Of all this they suffer indeed children unarmed subjects that don't find defense against the alteration of their certainties in the adults. The boys live closed in the narrow and poor space of resources of the Camp, deprived of the stimuli and of the necessary educational supports to their personal growth and of relationship. Aggressiveness is the main instrument to conduct the social and family relationships of children and young people. They grow the phenomenons of degrade and crime, due to the poverty, to the stress and the use and shop of drugs.
Running Palestina Work in progress The basement of Peace Games project is the Educational Center Al-Zuhur, through which is wanted to offer to children, to the boys and the women of the Camp an advanced place of aggregation under the educational profile, and adequately equipped. It started handling the most impelling needs for the operation of the Center: the restructuring of the building, the supply of equipments and materials, a first turned formative cycle to the staff of the local educators. From a small deprived kindergarten of means and methodological continuity, it became a polyvalent center that has earned in the time the trust of the local community as educational place of excellence: a Kindergarten for 80 children, a social Service of assistance to the families, a center of promotion of the woman, the sporting-cultural Club for boys from the 6 a 14 years. The staff of the Center is formed in Italy thanks to the share of the Consortium of communes of the province in Bologna “Terre d’Acqua", and on the spot thanks to the job of the operators of Peace Games Uisp. The projects are co-financed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from the Region Emilia Romagna, from the Province of Bologna and from private donations. Work in progress Peace Games presented to Friuli Venezia Giulia region a project for the support of sporting activities of educational center Al-Zuhur, called “The time to play”. It is in elaboration phases a project – to present to European Commission – of income production in Shu’fat camp and neighborhood. It is foreseen to create training courses for women to teach handcraft. It is in elaboration phases a consortium project of street animation in the area of Gaza streep.
Running Bosnia Work in progress “Games in net” - Mostar, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Zenica, Srebrenica, Konyic e Zavidovici The Bosnian society is lacerated by a conflict resolved only on the paper, where the economic and social problems that have given origin to the hostilities remain. It appears fundamental that children and the young people repurchase the ability to live and to interact, beyond the ethnic divisions, to build the future of essential cohabitation for the believable development of that society. Since 1994 Uisp Per Adotta la Pace and Peace Games gives life to interventions for children, young people and elderly ones of the Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the objective to favor the reconstruction of the social fabric and the reconciliation among the different ethnic groups using the game as instrument to promote the sociality, the relationships among children and between children and adults. The principal actions are the qualification and the equipment of recreational and aggregative spaces, with a particular attention to the qualification of the busy partner-cultural operators in the activities with the young persons, that are periodically formed on the spot and in Italy. GiroGiroGioco is the title of the long intervention with which the winning experience of the ludobuses is initiated, ludobuses are small van prepared to mobile playrooms able to reach children and the boys of the rural areas or urban outskirtses, where greater it is the lack of resources, the marginalization and the social uneasiness. “Game in net”, the actual project, constitutes the geographical and methodological amplification of it: thanks to the collaboration with the Ngos Nexus and Educ-aid in fact, activities are also extended to schools and playrooms. The project realizes thanks to the contribution of the region Emilia Romagna and of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia (for the activities to Zavidovici).
Running Bosnia Work in progress Sustainable Tourism (Work in progress) From the experience of Peace Games in Bosnian territory and of the leagues Uisp in the sports outside (league Mountain, league Underwater Activity, area Acquaviva), is delineating a collaboration for a project of sustainable tourism in the Balkan area. The idea is to realize the "sustainable and solidarity itineraries" in Bosnia Erzegovina, exploiting her great natural resources of the territory, traditionally out of the traditional tourist flows, to stimulate a responsible tourism with low environmental impact, that constitutes at the same time a possibility of economic development for the local population and of direct knowledge of the territory, in all of its characteristics, for the tourist.
Running Albania Work in progress “Good bye Maria, Sport for all the boys of Scutari" - Scutari (project waiting for prosecution) Scutari is the chief town of the homonym District to the northwest of Albania, few kilometers far from the Adriatic and on the shores of the lake dividing from Montenegro. In the period of the dictatorship it has gotten worse the process of social and economic isolation that interests the whole North of the Country and today Scutari is an area economically depressed, to the border of the interventions of the State, penalized by a difficulty state of social instability and occupational problem list. It continues the phenomenon of urbanization of the rural populations of the zones of mountain, overall in the external belt of the city, in the unauthorized houses where the inhabitants live in precarious way, deprived of the infrastructures and of the essential and deprived public services of rights of citizen. Such phenomenon, united to the traditional stratification of the Scutari society, whets differences and separations among the different sectors of the population creating real ghettos of marginal bands. Peace Games has realized the first part of a facing project to introduce in the Scutari society the instrument of sport as resource for the social development of the territory and for the overcoming of the socio-cultural differences. In the city the sport is felt thanks to a proud tradition in the volley and in the dreams of the little boys to become football champions: there is not a great culture about the use of sport sport as vehicle of socialization and communication. In collaboration with the Region Emilia Romagna and the Municipality of Scutari, Peace Games has set a support intervention of particularly fragile subjects as the local community of the Roma people and children and boys of the marginal districts.
Running Mozambique Work in progress The Football World cup traditionally is a large visibility moment for the organizer country and a great opportunity for the tourism. The impact of the wave of fans following the teams is by a positive side for the development and for the economic growth of a country, by the other one it arouses worries especially in case of developing countries both for the stability of the territory, and for the illegal activities that develop next to the event. As it regards the World cup of 2010 in Sudafrica, one of the hardest emergencies is the trafficking of women and girls from the neighboring countries, particularly in Mozambique, to insert them in prostitution system, as it happened in the World Cup of 2006 in Germany, during which it is esteemed that 40.000 girls have been moved from the countries of central and oriental Europe to start a gigantic system of payment sex. To help the country to face this risk, Peace Games and Uisp introduced a project to the European Commission office in Mozambique, where they will work on training activity and sensitization actions revolted to the operators of the sport world and to mass media.
