1 Corinthians 16:1-4 “Now about the collection for God's people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem. If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me.”

“But they gave themselves first to the Lord.” - 2 Corinthians 8:5 • When you haven’t given your life to Jesus Christ, it’s HARD to give Him some part of it • When you have given your life to Jesus Christ, it’s relatively EASY to give Him some part of it
Giving of our possessions without first giving of ourselves may be dangerous and harmful

Principles of Giving • Carry through on your commitments “So that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it.” -2 Corinthians 8:11

Standards • Pastor maintains distance from treasury • Church practices strict financial accountability
Three Essential Applications • Finish the task God has given you. If you have detoured form the path, get back on where you left off and do what you were originally called to do. • Give yourself entirely to Jesus Christ. Every other discipline, including the grace of giving, will naturally flow from a life surrendered to Christ. • Act as stewards of every resource with integrity and countability. Do not allow the name of Jesus to be soiled by sin and scandal.
