Saskatchewan is currently ranked among the top two provinces for: • Non-residential investment • Urban housing starts • International exports • Manufacturing shipments • Retail sales • Unemployment rates and rates of employment growth • Average weekly earnings • Real wage growth; and • Saskatchewan's population reached an all-time record of 1.1M at the end of 2012, the largest year-over-year increase in the province's 107-year history.

PLANNING IS GAINING MOMENTUM Many of Saskatchewan’s 786 rural and urban municipalities have been under pressure to respond to growth demands, spurring: • 158 municipalities to participate in the province’s Planning for Growth program • the development of 18 planning districts involving 88 municipalities and two First Nations across the province • an increase in the number of Official community plans (40% of municipalities); and Zoning bylaws (63% of municipalities) • A growing interest in establishing planning and development services to support local and regional demands for residential and commercial lots, expanding infrastructure, and servicing
