Flood Related Impact On Northern California Network • Damage to trackage in Southern California and Nevada has required trains to be rerouted to alternate routes through Northern California • Maintain on-time performance of passenger trains • Has created additional strain on resources • Track Capacity Impacts • Additional Crews • Equipment Utilization
Northern California Capacity Projects • Upgraded centralized traffic control system between Oakland(Jack London) and Elmhurst • Constructing additional double tracking and extend switching leads at Newark • Construct controlled siding at CP Coast (Santa Clara) • Upgrade signal system between Stockton and Fremont • Constructed 2nd main line across Yolo Causeway (Completed 2004) • Construct additional 2nd main line trackage between San Jose and Gilroy
Capacity Issues Currently Being Evaluated • Extend switching leads between Oakland and Martinez to eliminate need to utilize main lines for switching • Additional track requirements and tunnel improvements required to operate double stack equipment east of Roseville across the Sierra Mountains • New sidings and/or siding extensions between Stockton and Fremont • Increase fluidity through Roseville yard • Increase switching capacity at Stockton Yard
