  1. Field Test High Level Plan for C4 CMTS Release 3.1 Software June 11, 2003 ARRIS Confidential 6/11/03-D

  2. Introduction Purpose To test the C4 CMTS Release 3.1 for feature functionality and stability at a customer production facility. Key features to be included in this release are: Anchor Features • Upstream Source Verify w/ Lease Query • RIP-to-OSPF Route Redistribution w/ Route Filters • Null Interface Support • Fast-E Support on the GigE NAM • Enhanced Denial-of-Service (DOS) Attack Protection • Flap List support • “Banner” support, Cable Auth string encryption, CLI help text improvement • Resolves Critical Issues identified by Comcast • see ARRIS-Issues document dated June 4, 2003 Objectives • To conduct testing to insure that the level of service provided by the C4 software release meets customer expectations. • To conduct testing to demonstrate and validate performance of key features implemented above in this software. • To show the stability of the software load by meeting an established soak metric without incident. 3. Methodology The C4 CMTS Release 3.1 software field test will be conducted in two distinct phases. Phase 1 should be conducted at the customer’s test facility on an isolated network. Phase 2 should be implemented at a headend, which is currently providing commercial service. Phase 1: Lab Testing In Phase 1, the verification test plan will be executed as part of both CIPS and PPT testing. Execution of all tests will be performed by Comcast with ARRIS support as required to cover the following areas (if possible): • DHCP Source Verify w/ Lease Query • RIP-to-OSPF Route Redistribution w/ Route Filters • Null Interface Support • Fast-E Support on the GigE NAM • “Banner” support, Cable Auth string encryption, CLI help text improvement • Resolves Critical Issues identified by Comcast, including: • Redundancy testing to ensure proper operation after a side switch • RADIUS validation • Broadcast storm prevention (ARP cache fix) • Improved SNMP response times ARRIS Confidential 6/11/03-D

  4. Methodology (cont.) Phase 2: Field Soak In conjunction with Phase 1 testing, C4 CMTS Release 3.1 software should be installed across a subscriber network. During this period, the reliability and stability of the C4 software will be monitored. For Comcast Field Soak, ARRIS recommends the following two test sites: • Classic Comcast • One site with two C4 CMTSs • Load Release 3.1 on one C4 CMTS with at least 8K CMs • New Comcast — Redwood 1 System • One site with one C4 CMTS • Load Release 3.1 on the C4 CMTS with at least 8K CMs A soak period of one week without any outage or reset is required for a successful soak. The ARRIS Field Soak Prime will monitor the software on a daily basis during Phase 2 and investigate any issues. Note that proper assessment of some of the above criteria may require significant involvement of Comcast personnel. Support during normal business hours will be provided by the Field Soak Prime. If an issue requires escalation after normal business hours the customer will be advised to escalate into the ARRIS Technical Support line. 5. Site Requirements Phase 1 (Lab Testing) Phase 1 testing should occur as a combination of both CIPS and PPT testing. The lab environment at these facilities are more than adequate to perform the desired testing. Phase 1 will focus on operability, recovery, feature testing, and network impact. Phase 2 (Field Soak) The second phase of testing is the field test or soak phase. This phase focuses on the actual day-to-day operation of the C4 CMTS. The requirements for this phase are as follows: • Two test sites — Classic Comcast (two C4 CMTSs) and New Comcast (Redwood 1, one C4 CMTS) • Each chassis should have more than 8K CMs • Duplex Control Complex • In band Management • Cable Source Verify with DHCP Lease Query enabled (Classic Comcast Only) Additionally, support from the customer’s operations team will be required to properly track performance of the C4 CMTS with any field issues that may arise during the soak period. ARRIS strives to meet the timeline contained within this presentation. There may be unforeseeable issues that cause delays in the project dates. Prior to committing to the Field Soak activity ARRIS asks that Comcast work with ARRIS to define the timeline and identify concerns or issues with the plan. ARRIS Confidential 6/11/03-D

  6. Success Metrics Phase 1: Lab Testing • Successful completion of CIPS testing • Successful completion of PPT testing • All test cases will be addressed • SR’s generated for all test plan failures or unexpected results Phase 2: Field Soak • Complete C4 software field deployment on selected C4 CMTSs • 1 week per C4 w/ minimum of 8,000 subs without subscriber service impact • No service degradation to subscribers involved in the trial • SR’s generated for all identified issues • All identified issues resolved or addressed ARRIS Confidential 6/11/03-D

  7. Proposed Schedule Note: Dates are subject to change due to customer site and resource availability and the Release 3.1.1 availability date. ARRIS Confidential 6/11/03-D
