Purpose The purpose of this unit is to provide instruction on how to download and install the LibX plug-in for the Firefox browser on a computer
Instructional Objectives Upon completion of this instructional unit, participants will be able to use a computer with internet access and Firefox browser to: • Successfully download/install the Virginia Tech LibX edition for Firefox from the library Web page • Complete a search on a given topic using Google Scholar to test for correct functioning of the plug-in • Correctly identify the LibX icon on search results to confirm LibX installation
Introduction • LibX is a browser plug-in that creates a portable gateway to online library resources • LibX allows a library user to search the library’s electronic resources from any location on the Web
Introduction There are two versions of LibX available: • Firefox • Internet Explorer
LibX Advantages • It is an open-source software, which means it is freely available • LibX facilitates effective and efficient research by providing a one-stop-shopping location
LibX Advantages…continued • You can search Addison (The Library catalog) directly from the LibX toolbar or using the right-click context menu • LibX provides seamless navigation between and among resources

Error Message After clicking to install, you might get the message: Firefox prevented this site (www.lib.vt.edu.exproxy.lib.vt.edu) from asking you to install software on your computer

Results List If you see the Get VText icon shown below next to some of your results, you have successfully installed LibX on your computer: Get VText
End You have completed the testing phase and are ready to use LibX If you did not see the icon, troubleshoot and repeat the installation
