IBM Burlington Use of LEGO Mindstorms • IBM Burlington has 20 RCX based LEGO Education Mindstorms for Schools kits • 16 laptops running Robolab 2.5.4 • Other add-ons: angle sensors, foam flooring • Multi-day Camps • EXITE (EXploring Interests in Technology and Engineering) • IGNITE (IGNiting Interest in Technology and Engineering) • Girl Scout Council of VT • Single Day Events with Local Partners • Boys & Girls Club of Burlington • UVM Society of Women Engineers Chapter • ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center • Rosie’s Girls • Individual outreach activities with classrooms / small groups • Girl Scout troop activities • After school programs 1st Annual Northern New England LEGO Engineering Conference

Sample Curriculum: IBM EXITE Summer Camp • Background: • Audience - 36 girls entering 7th grade • Camp lasts 5 days during summer vacation • Multiple activities including LEGO Mindstorms, instrument building, web page design, electronics project, mentoring • LEGO Mindstorms Workshop • 6 hours of instruction / lab over 4 days • Girls work in pairs, 18 girls per session • High volunteer to student ratio (1:3) 1st Annual Northern New England LEGO Engineering Conference
