Rational • NSW Child Protection Act • Compliance with Telecommunications Act • Corporate requirements of campus partners • The desire to have an internal campus Intranet and Email system while still maintaining corporate internet access • Individualised Internet access
Original Network • Novell Client/Server Environment (IPX) • Unix Email system (IP) • Internet access for University via link to our main campus then out to QUESTnet • Access to Uni corporate system over IP to main campus • Access to TAFE corporate System via IP • Internet access restricted to non University students via Novell login • High School Staff accessing Internet via University and QUESTnet
Challenging Issues • Dual Platform (Mac & PC) • Novell File/Print Services • Local Email System • University RAS service • Provision of access to partners corporate systems/intranets • Incoming external IP printing from two sources • Establishing of a local intranet accessible by all users
Problems Encountered • No suitable Client for Macintosh • Contivity code only allowed for one default gateway • By default all local traffic traffic went via VPN tunnel thus causing all local traffic to transverse the LAN router twice • Novell Ldap not compatible with Nortel Contivity Ldap implementation
Problems Encountered • Microsoft Blue screens of Death caused by null encryption • HTTP Proxy servers for separate networks • DNS for Macintosh workstations using PPTP instead of IPsec
Summary • Achieved a share resource network with individualised internet access • Maintained a local intranet and email solution • Provided access to partners corporate systems/Intranets • Compliant with government legislation • Achieved a share resource network with individualised internet access
