How? • Upload video directly to course • Takes up a lot of your quota (300mb) • Have to deal with file types, player size, etc. • Use Kaltura or Youtube Mash Up • Doesn’t count against class quota • Easier to work with • Own personal library of content • Looks good from student perspective • Embed other web video • Copy/Paste embed code • Doesn’t look as “slick” as a mash up.

Tips • Keep it short & focused & current • Keep it relevant • Avoid the “Television Effect” • Promote active viewing • Direct student attention • Require specific deliverables • Use “controversial” images • Challenge students’ preconceptions • Introduce the video • Tie an assignment to video content

Ideas for Use • Provide a focused viewing assignmenti.e. directed viewing • What should students watch for? • How should they engage with the video? • Break longer pieces into shorter section • Module intro videos to generate interest • Pre & post viewing writing assignments (Discussions, Blogs, Journals, etc.) • Weekly announcements, reinforce the personal connection • Student created reaction videos
