Chapter 9 - Transformations Warmup today – take 8 minutes Remove all graded papers from folders If you took the test yesterday – do the final self-evaluation on the green form (last column) based Everyone – on the back of the green form (or a separate piece of paper if you don’t have one) … respond to the following: Are you happy with your current grade? If not, what are you currently doing to address it?
Chapter 9 – Key Terminology • Transformation – a “mapping” that results in a change in position, shape or size of the object. • Isometry or rigid motion– a transformation that maintains size and shape. • Preimage – this is the object before a transformation has been applied. • Image – this is the object after the transformation has been applied. • Translation – a Transformation that changes only the position of an object by shifting it up/down/left/right
Translations • Correct Notation = T< horizontal, vertical> {object} • T<1,3> ABCD This “shifts” the quadrilateral ABCD right 1 and up 3. • T<-2,-5> ABCD This “shifts” the quadrilateral ABCD left 2and down 5. • If the Pre-Image is labeled ABCD, the corresponding vertices in the Image are named A’B’C’D’
