Chapter Transportation Chairs E-Mail Group - Outreach First E-mail Outreach contact (volume 1, Number 1) from ITC sent January 18th ,2006 generated interest and positive comments. We are creating up-to-date contacts for our chapter and “community of interest” database. The 1st broadcast included basic committee information (mission, current committee roster and minutes from our Anaheim committee meeting), and an invitation to communicate with us on a variety of topics.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 1: Develop session topics that involve international or bi-lateral issues for the 2007 Annual Conference in Sacramento. Measure of Success: 6 of 8 approved ITC sessions for Sacramento will have content that has application for Canadian and other members. The remaining two are the “Federal Agency Update”, “AASHTO Update”, and even those probably have some relevance for right of way professionals from Canada, South Africa, Japan and others.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 2: Present ITC sessions for the 2007 Annual Conference in Sacramento that deal with issues in several transportation modes (not just highways), as well as at least 1 session on communications/negotiations. Measure of Success: 7 of our 8 approved ITC sessions for Sacramento have “multi-modal” or communication/negotiation applications.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 3: Focus on communication, outreach, and participation with all committee members and our “Community of Practice”. • Measure of Success: • All ITC members had a voice in developing Session Topics and we were successful in getting 8 ITC sessions approved for Sacramento. • The ITC is continuing to develop our current list of Chapter Transportation Chairs. Our first e-mail broadcast to the Chapter Chairs went out in early 2006. This is planned to be a large part of our outreach efforts following sub-committee re-structuring.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 3: Focus on communication, outreach, and participation with all committee members and our "Community of Practice“. • Measure of Success: • The ITC and Local Pubic Agency Committee (ILPAC) have established and continue to build on a partnership in sponsoring sessions at the Annual Conference. • The ITC is looking for other ways to partner with the ILPAC and other International Committees. We have taken the lead and have enlisted four International Committees as co-sponsors of educational sessions for Sacramento.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 3: Focus on communication, outreach, and participation with all committee members and our "Community of Practice“. • Measure of Success: • The ITC sponsored a display booth and promotion of the Association at the 2006 Mid-South Right of Way Conference in Little Rock AR. Attendance 80+ • The ITC participated in the Northwest Right of Way Conference in Vancouver Washington by providing a welcome message, magazine, SR/WA and specialty designation information, and membership application in each registrants conference packet. Attendance 200+
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 3: Focus on communication, outreach, and participation with all committee members and our "Community of Practice“. Measure of Success: (G) The ITC staffed an IRWA information booth in the exhibit area at the “Mid-Atlantic Workshop”. This annual event was attended by over 300 ROW professionals – most of whom are not currently IRWA members. We plan to participate again in 2007 and beyond. This is an excellent outreach opportunity and we suggest that IRWA develop a strategy for having a presence at similar Annual ROW Workshops across the country.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 3: Focus on communication, outreach, and participation with all committee members and our "Community of Practice“. Measure of Success: (H) The ITC, with assistance from the local MD Chapter, coordinated the placement and staffing of an IRWA information booth at the “2006 AASHTO ROW/Utilities Conference”. This annual event was attended by over 300 ROW professionals. We recommend that IRWA develop a strategy for having a presence at similar Annual ROW Events across the country. 2007 AASHTO ROW/Utilities conference is in Orlando.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 4: Sponsor several articles for RIGHT OF WAY magazine within the next twelve months. Measure of Success: Articles published by ITC members Todd Pickett, Terrel Heather, SR/WA and Clyde Johnson, SR/WA are included in the listing of personal projects. Additionally several other members have committed to authoring articles this year and Rick Etter of ITC was interviewed for “Agency Speaks” section of magazine.
2007 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Committee Strategic Plan Yes No Goal # 5: Foster the development of a “ROW Community of Practice” that is both internal and external to IRWA. • Measure of Success: • We continue to communicate with FHWA, FAA and FTA Realty Program Experts on program issues on a regular basis.
What’s working well…………… • Keeping a broad Transportation focus • Our current membership is diverse: • 9 government employees • 8 ROW consultant employees • 1 retiree • Six of our 8 Sacramento sessions have cross-functional or multi-modal implications • We have industry reps in aviation, highways, transit – Federal, State & Local
What’s working…. but can improve • Sub-Committee Structure • More interaction and involvement by members of the sub-committees • More equitable distribution of assignments • More effective results - because the Sub-Committee members take ownership in their areas of responsibility
What’s working…… but can improve 2. Our Personal Project Initiative On the positive side……. The Personal Projects can contribute significantly to the ITC’s goals and mission, and to the Association as a whole. They give each ITC member an opportunity to contribute, and also gives them a chance to pick the project. We have some very worthwhile projects underway.
What’s working…… but can improve 2. Our Personal Project Initiative On the other hand…… Some ITC members either have not committed to do a project . . . Or have proposed a project – but not followed through on their commitment. We need follow through by our members
What needs improvement…………… We need to work on improving our 2-way communications, developing more active participation and getting effective feedback on our performance. This applies within the ITC… between the ITC and other Committees… between the Committees and the Regions... between the Committees and the IEC
What’s working…… but must improve • Our Outreach Initiatives • Our Chapter Chairs E-mail Group was just starting to take off – response was good! However this effort needs work with communication sub-committee • Difficult to measure the value of our presence at national and regional ROW events • Need strategic committee guidance from IEC • Our communication subcommittee must take the lead working with Chair & Vice Chair for effective implementation.
