1997 • Feb: begin IT study – visit Wake Forest • Mar: meeting with Provost Rogers • Apr: ad-hoc committee recommends a faculty development center and a CoES laptop pilot • Summer: innovation grant for Math Sci pilot laptop project.
1997 • Aug: CoES pilot proposal submitted • Sept: two prototype smart classrooms constructed. • Nov: finalize Martin-Earle renovation plan • Dec: CoES pilot funded
1998 • Jan: vendor interviews • Mar: hired pilot program director, Laurie Sherrod • Apr: Dell CPi selected for fall 1998, sent out applications to incoming engineering freshmen • May: purchased WebCT license • June: U Ga WebCT workshop, student orientation • July: student orientation
1998 • Aug: student workshops, Martin-Earle renovation completed, 15 smart classrooms online • Sept: planned program assessment • Oct: communicon, President’s Symposium • Nov: communicon, CoES Advisory Board, survey laptop student computing experience • Dec: analysis of assessment data.
1999 • Jan: ICCEL, Wake Forest talks, Pearce Center presentation, CAC newsletter article • Feb: communicon • Mar: Dell CPT C selected for fall 1999 • Apr: SUCCEED poster session, ASEE SE regional conference talks, Madren Center • June: paper, First International WebCT Conference, more smart classrooms constructed.
2000 • Feb: talks given at UCF-Dell Laptops in the Classroom Conference • Mar: poster session, SUCCEED-Gateway Conference. Dell CPT S selected for fall 2002. • May: best group paper at Furman Conference on Technology • June: paper, Second International WebCT Conference, more smart classrooms constructed.
2001 • Feb: Dell C600 with wireless mini-pci card chosen for fall 2001, talks given at UCF-Dell Laptops in the Classroom Conference • Apr: poster session, SUCCEED-Gateway Conference • June: paper, Third International WebCT Conference, more smart classrooms and wireless smart classrooms constructed
2002 • Jan: CoES, BPA mandate approved • Mar: talks at colleges of IT, Eng, Bus of the United Arab Emirates University, Al-Ain • Apr: DCIT chooses IBM R31 for fall 2002, poster session, SUCCEED-Gateway Conference, 57 laptops awarded to faculty • Jun: DCIT laptop help/repair center opens, laptop faculty development program begins
2002 • June: more smart classrooms and wireless smart classrooms constructed • July: paper, Fourth International WebCT Conference • Aug: “Laptops in the Engineering and Science Classroom,” United Engineering Foundation Conference, Davos Switzerland, Maple and MATLAB networked license for student owned machines
2003 • Jan: AAH, AFLS join mandate, articles in Faculty Directions • Feb: DCIT chooses IBM R40, T40 for fall 2003 • Mar: Microsoft student site license for windows and office
