Genre • The genre of the book is nonfiction . The book is about Sam’s account of his life in the wild and what he learns about the wilderness –and himself -in the process
Point of View • This book is in first person. In the beggning of the book says “When I was in elementery school , I ran away.
Plot • Sam ran away from home. When he was in elementary school, he told his mom he was going to run away.
Setting • It takes place outside in the Catskills Mountains . There is a lot of wilderness and nature. There is a lot of streams and rivers. He is sometimes in his house and in the city. His house is a tree.
Character Development • Sam is the main character .Sam is brave ,helpful , smart ,and nice. Sam was scared in the begening but now he is not. Sam was scared because he was living alone , but now he found somebody to talk to.

Community Connection • Lots of people run away from home. Sam ran away from home. Running away is a serious problem. According to the National Runaway Switchboard, an organization that takes calls and helps kids who have run away or are thinking of running away, 1 in 7 kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point. And there are 1 million to 3 million runaway and homeless kids living on the streets in the United States.
