  2. Objective and actions of the Safer Internet Programme Since 1999, the Commission has taken action to make the Internet safer through its Safer Internet Programmes. Overall objective: to protect children by promoting safer useof the Internet and other communication technologies Safer Internet Programme 2009-2013, four main actions : • Action 1:Ensuring public awareness of online risks and precautions • Action 2:Fighting against illegal content (in particular child sexual abuse material) and tackling harmful conduct online (grooming and bullying) • Action 3: Promoting a safer online environment • Action 4:Broadening the knowledge base that will provide input to the development of policies and actions EU Kids Online Final Conference, 11/06/2009

Knowledge base in Work Programme 2009 Online grooming from the victim’s perspective • Aim: to enhance the knowledge of online-related sexual abuse of children, in particular online grooming • Expected outcome: Research findings that can feed into policy making, child welfare work and awareness raising EU Kids Online Final Conference, 11/06/2009

Knowledge base in Work Programme 2010 (draft) Internet Addiction of minors • Identified as one of the gaps in the evidence base according to EU Kids Online final report • Reported by some Safer Internet Centers as one of the emerging risks • Focus of the study: To what extend it is an online risk among minors in Europe and how it can be prevented EU Kids Online Final Conference, 11/06/2009
