  4. Russian TA project on JI • DEPA project started 2003 • Key elements: GHG Inventories, JI project portfolio, Emission Trading • Beneficiaries: MoEDT, Roshydromet, MoE, MNR, MoIST • Contracted parties: COWI, ECON, Denmark’s National Environmental Research Institute, Russian REC, Russian experts

  5. JI Potential in Russia • Enormous potential • Promissing projects: biomass/cleaner fuel, energy efficiency in industry, landfill methane capture, coal mine methane capture, N2O reduction from fertilizer production, etc. • Selected pilot project: Moscow landfills Iksha and Khmetyevo

  6. Benefits to Russia from Kyoto ratification Russia will benefit economically by ratifying the Kyoto protocol: • Ratification will enhance the necessary public and private sector investments in energy efficiency • Ratification will attract foreign investments • Russia will be a key market player, and will be able to optimise its economic benefits.

  7. Greening AAUs Greening of AAUs an important part of the Danish JI strategy: • Early credits / Late credits • Proceeds from AAU sales invested in environmental improvements at industry level • Proceeds from AAU sales used to finance costs of implementing Kyoto protocol

  8. Experience sharing • Transfer of Danish experience implementing IPCC Good Practice Guidance • Emissions trading (former DK and UK experiences and EU ETS) • Implementing EU ETS in practice (Allocation plans and national legislation) • Legal aspects of JI and ETS
