EDUCATION AND THE LABOUR MARKET • The Danish labour force constitutes c. 2.8 million people • A high participation rate of 76.6% • The unemployment rate is 6.4% • Men make up only slightly more than half of the labour force I.e. 52.5% • About 23% of all employed people work in public companies, whereas 68% work in private companies 2004

GOVERNMENT OBJECTIVES • At least 85% of a year group should complete a youth education in 2010, and 95% in 2015 • Today’s completion rate: c. 80% • At least 45% of a year group should complete a higher education programme in 2010, and 50% in 2015 • Today’s completion rate: c. 44.5%
