Possibility of MBK Fabrication in Korea • Tube related capabilities in Korea: • PAL have full capabilities for providing pulsed 80-MW S-band RF system. • KAPRA is developing CW 1-MW 700-MHz Klystron for PEFP proton linac. • There are considerable activities in Universities (SNU, POSTECH,…). • In-house tube R&D can be performed but not recommended. • Localization of tube design followed by the acquisition of fabrication drawings (if possible !) would be the right choice for fast fabrication. • Possible collaboration scheme: • PAL-KAPRA for high-power RF technologies and infra-structures. • Distributed resources (mainly among Universities) for investigating various physics & engineering isssues.
PAL’s Potential for MBK Fabrication • Special facilities for klystron fabrication • XHV Baking Station • Various Furnaces • HP Microwave Test-Lab • Infra-Structures • Chemical Cleaning Shop, Plating Facility, Welding Shop, 3D CMM,… • Magnetic Field Measurement Facilities • Full-line of Microwave Equipments • High-Quality Manpowers • Beam-Dynamics Experts • Mechanical Engineers • High-Power Electrical Engineers • RF Engineers (LL & HL) • XHV Experts • were involved in the PLS construction, now in the PAL XFEL project • Expected Production Rate: ~ 10 tubes/year
