Who Are We? • We have 1,490 students, including New Tech (increase of 100 students over the last 3 years) • We are New Tech and New Tech is us • Our largest department is the Special Education Department • Categorical Programs: 3 CI classrooms, 1 HI classroom, 2 EI classrooms, • Support Services: workshop, co-taught classes, resource English, Math, and Science classes • 3 administrators, 1 athletic director, 83 certified staff, 10 IA’s, 4 counselors, 1 school psychologist, 2.5 social workers, 2 speech therapist, 3 hearing impaired interpreters, 1 site manager, 6 para-pros, 1 college advisor
Staff and Parent Involvement in the SIP DAC is our School Improvement Team DAC is our governing board for school business ABC: Academic Boosters Club with parent involvement DAC is leading our curriculum work 90 rubrics: divided into groups with whole staff involvement
Key Data Discoveries • Discrepancy with subgroups in: • Hispanic • Economically disadvantaged • Special education students • Just above state average for ACT scores. • Our percentage of students demonstrating proficiency in Social Studies was significantly higher than our other core content areas. • Very little discrepancy with subgroups with regards to Social Studies
Points of Pride/Bright Spots • Developing a guaranteed and viable curriculum. • Success within our Social Studies Department • We were named a “Beating the Odds” High School • We were named in the top 40 high schools in the state • 16 staff members that have been trained in blended instruction • By the end of June, 23 teachers and 1 IA will have completed the full SIOP training. • Book study of “Becoming a Great High School” • We had 6 commended national merit scholars, 5 national merit finalists, and one national merit scholarship winner! • Partnership with Van Andel Institute – Scientific Inquiry Process Training and implementation and coaching. • Approximately 50% of staff voluntarily participated in Tuesday/Thursday morning Tech trainings with Dave Bast • 4 prototype classrooms with 6 teachers implementing project-based learning • 6 Fusion classes offered throughout the year, 3 System 44 and Read 180 classes • 49/220 students receiving gold cords this year (3.5gpa or above) • 19/220 red and white cords (4.0gpa or above) • 13 AP classes being offered this year • Herman Miller Academy • Our graduating class will be receiving over 2 million dollars in college scholarships
