Psychiatrist • Medical degree (M.D., D.O.) • 4 yrs med school (classroom & clinical) • 3-4 yr residency in psychiatry • Can prescribe meds
Psychologist • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) • 4 yrs graduate school (classroom & clinical) • 1 yr internship • 1 yr post doc supervision • must pass state and national licensing exams
Psychological Practitioner • in KY only • masters degree in psychology • total of 60 hours of graduate training • 5 years of supervised experience • must pass state and national licensing exams at doctoral level
Other Masters Level Professionals • Licensing varies • Generally requires a masters degree in counseling or social work, a passing score on a licensing exam, and 2 years of supervised experience • In KY • LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) • LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor) • In OH • LISW (licensed independent social worker) • LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor)
