Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database • Provides descriptive and bibliographic information about books, video recordings, and sound recordings for children and young adults. • Contains information concerning works about children’s literature and children’s authors. • Has more than 315,000 full text reviews – primarily 1993 to present. • Is updated monthly.
Opening the Database • It will automatically open to the Search screen. • Database options are on the left side of the search screen. • Follow the through these slides for an overview of some the features of the database options.

Search Option • Enter a search term in the Full-text Search box – try searches by subjects, exact titles, key words, authors, lexiles and ISBN numbers. • Options for various qualifiers and limiters are available directly below and to the right of the search box. • Note: some qualifiers can restrict searches, e.g., try selecting a subject to search and then limiting by age or grade, the results will be restricted to only items that have reviews.
Search Option – (continued) • When your search yields results, you will be able to link directly to PRPL’s catalog to check for holdings. • A green dot before a title means that one or more reviews are present. An orange dot means that curriculum tools are available. • Click on a title in your search results to see a comprehensive record including awards, reviews, and reading measurement tools, such as lexiles.
Search Option – (continued) • To the left of your search results there are various customizing options – such as creating your own booklists or sorting your results by various criteria. • You can print your search results/lists or you can email them by clicking the link at the top right side of the results page.
Go to Browse Option • The browse search focuses on retrieving catalog records based on the index entries associated with one specific field, such as Dewey classification. • Instructions are to the right of the browse screen.
