Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) • Nebraska’slargest electric utility in terms of geographic territory • An estimated 1 million people in Nebraska depend on NPPD for electricity • Chartered territory includes all or parts of 91 of Nebraska’s 93 counties
Statutory Authority …involvement by publicly owned electric utilities operating in rural areas in such economic development activities serves a public purpose and it is the public policy of this state to allow public power districts to promote economic development and job creation projects in rural areas… Nebraska Revised Statute 70-625.01

Site Selection Process • 1 to 2 day turn-around • Internet for initial screening • Community may never know they are/were being considered • Detailed “Request for Proposal” for more specific info • Often want response in electronic format
Recruiting Skilled Workers • Size and quality of regional labor force is the most important consideration in most expansion and relocation projects • Many of our communities have established formal workforce development programs • Communities are taking the lead and NPPD supports workforce development efforts
Going “Green” • Requests for green sites, buildings, and energy are increasing • NPPD has developed educational and demonstration facilities
