  1. What steps did Dore Primary School take to become a Fairtrade school?

  2. Step 1 Set up a Fairtrade Steering Group. Who? Pupils, staff. What? Meet at lunchtime to discuss ideas, create posters, celebrate our success, create an action plan for the year. When? Meet once a term and keep minutes as evidence.

  3. Step 2 Adopt a Fairtrade Policy. Written by the Fairtrade steering group. Approved by the Governors and Headteacher. Included in the school development plan. Evidence = the policy

  4. Step 3 Commit to Fairtrade products Selling Fairtrade dried fruit at healthy tuck shop. Organised Fairtrade cafes during One World Week including Fairtrade baked goodies and Fairtrade tea and coffee. Fairtrade stall at the Autumn Fayre. Evidence = receipts, photos.

  5. Step 4 Learn about Fairtrade. Pupils should learn about Fairtrade in at least 2 year groups and at least 3 subject areas. Whole school involvement in One World Week. Evidence = photos, displays, children’s work, lesson plans.

  7. Step 5 Take action for Fairtrade One event/activity each term. Spring - One World Week - Fairtrade cafes in KS2 (Parents and Community invited in). Summer -KS2 Assembly on Fairtrade cotton (In school) Autumn -Autumn Fair Traidcraft stall – children sold products to local community. -Co-op assembly introduced children to Fairtrade products and related to local village Co-op. -Stephen Waterhouse, a visiting artist, came to share his work on the Divine Advent calendars and children created their own design.

  8. What’s next? • Submit your evidence online. • Wait to be assessed and they will contact you to let you know if you have been successful. • Keep up your Fairtrade activities. You will have to re-apply each year but with less evidence needed.
